Stowaway to Geneva

Last week, Jignesh had a two day business trip to Geneva, Switzerland. Well, I decided to stowaway in his luggage and forced him to turn his two day trip into five. I have to admit that I was not sure what to expect of Geneva. Admittedly, I had only really heard of Geneva in conversations involving the United Nations and other large international organizations and thought that it was purely a city that revolves around business. I was proven wrong. Geneva is set against the huge Lake Geneva (Lac Leman to the locals) that provides endless activities such as sailing and waterskiing. The path that lines the entire lake is a great place to rollerblade, cycle, or simply stroll. And, of course, with the Alps just a short drive away the scenery is amazing (not to mention the skiing). While Jignesh was slaving away in the office, I took advantage of the lakefront with some long runs in the morning and some window shopping (I am dreaming of a Swiss watch) in the afternoon. Don't worry, Jignesh was not all work and no play. One night we joined one of Jignesh's co-workers for some great weather and music at the Caribana music festival. We also spent Saturday exploring some towns outside of Geneva, including Lausanne. Another thing that surprised me about Geneva was the cost. Depending on what list you look at, Zurich and Geneva are usually on the top ten of list of most expensive cities in the world. But I always thought that no city could really be much more expensive than London. Right? Wow I was terribly wrong. The number of Ferrari's that we saw was outrageous. However, it was not more outrageous than the $4.00 coffee at Starbuck's! Yes, $4.00 for a basic coffee. All in all, we had a great trip and I am glad that I decided to stowaway for the weekend.

Cheers.

A bit of advice for you in Geneva. Never try the buffet there. Ask Eyal for details.
